After two decades of running a small construction company in Berkeley, I returned to school to pursue my life-long interest in working directly with people. My training at The Institute of Conscious Bodywork (Alive and Well) in Marin County has given me the skills and opportunity to establish a thriving private bodywork practice since 2001. In addition, as a member of the Institute’s faculty for the past decade, I have had the distinct honor of helping others learn about this exciting field.
I entered Alive and Well not primarily to learn how to give a relaxing massage but because I wanted to help people feel more comfortable in their bodies and get out of pain. To this end, I focused much of my coursework and stints as a teaching assistant to anatomy, kinesiology, and the other advanced tools offered at the Institute. These courses formed the bulk of my responsibilities upon joining the faculty in 2003. I feel fortunate to have been able to develop a career that allows me to work creatively with my hands, help my clients solve physical problems, and teach others the tools for a successful practice.
Currently, I am an instructor and the department head of the deep tissue track at the McKinnon Institute in Oakland. I also teach at schools in Marin County and Davis, CA.
I live in Berkeley with my wife Jackie and our goofball dog, Augie. Our son Josh just moved back to the Bay Area from Washington DC.
“I began working with Larry because of pain I was experiencing through a combination of over training and technique problems. Larry's work helped me get back to keep up with my competition schedule. I now just run for fun and fitness, and I still see Larry regularly as his work keeps me moving pain-free." — Ariel, former Division I college cross country runner
